Concerto for two pianos and orchestra (1981- rev.1985)
In contrast to most of my other compositions which are usually based on overall design, in this work I wished to change my method and compose a concert consisting of a number of short parts. Each one of the five parts has been composed in as compact a form as possible (duration resp. 2-2-2-4-4 minutes) and focuses on a basic idea. Elements of the previous parts return in the cadenza of the last part. The concerto was my last composition as student of Joep Straesser at the Utrecht Conservatory.
First performance: September 1982 by the Residentie Orchestra conducted by Lucas Vis during the International Gaudeamus Music Week.
