(2017/rev. 2019)
This less-than-three-minute-long subtle piece for piano has affinity with several of my previous compositions, which also have a certain openness, transparency, and playfulness. A colleague described the score of Open mind as “almost Scarlatti-like.” That did not surprise me, because there is indeed a certain similarity with the eighteenth-century rococo style that championed simplicity, lightness and elegance.
A grand piano with three pedals is required. The specific use of it’s middle pedal creates an echo-like effect. If the piano doesn’t have a middle pedal, one can achieve a reasonable similar effect by placing a dictionary or other heavy object on the lowest five black keys.
The world premiere has yet to take place.
